Funny, I had heard of the Lazy Environmentalist, Josh Dorfman, but I had not heard of his eco-friendly furniture and home design center, called Vivavi, until today. Each of his stylish green offerings list why they are green, which includes low VOC finishes, formaldehyde-free adhesive, reclaimed items, FSC certified wood, etc. One of my new found favorites is this ergonomically designed Spring Chairthat has a decreased environmental impact through its one-piece construction from rapidly renewable bamboo. But don't stop there, from lighting to console tables, kid and pet options, Vivavi has a lot of cool green items going on.

Zap Set to Release 3-Wheeled Electric Sports Car PDF Print E-mail

Zap, who's been making small electric vehicles for quite a while now, is finally setting its sights on a highway-capable EV for the US market. And unlike all other highway capable EVs currently being manufactured, Zap's Alias is actually priced for normal consumers at about $30,000.

Unfortunately the Alias had to make some sacrifices to keep costs down...including one of it's wheels. That's right, it's a three wheeler, allowing Zap to keep it regulated as a motorcycle, which means crash tests won't be necessary. So far, there have been few insights as to how the vehicle will be powered, and what kind of amenities will be found inside.

But we do know that it'll be a two-seater, and the lithium ion batteries should push the vehicle from zero-to-sixty time in less than six seconds. The only other detail we have...Zap is hoping to have the vehicle for sale in the US by Q2 2009.

You can reserve yours right now for $5000 at ZapWorld.com

Motorboard Speeds Up Commutes PDF Print E-mail

Tom Konrad, Ph.D. is an Investment Analyst at AltEnergyStocks.com, a provider of high-quality, original research into alternative energy, renewable energy, and clean technology companies. This is a guest article cross-posted from Carectomy.com.

When I first read about the motorboard on Carectomy, it offered a solution to a problem I'd been thinking about for some time. I often need to go downtown (about a mile and a half) from my office, and I usually need to be well dressed when I do so. Since downtown is only a 3 mile round trip, my preferred method (if I have time) is to simply walk the distance. Walking takes care of my exercise for the day and can also be quite pleasant and relaxing.

Unfortunately, I don't always have time to walk, biking can be impractical in dress clothes, and driving and using a parking meter usually involves rushing out at the end of a 2 hour meeting to avoid getting a ticket (and often saves little time due to the hunt for a parking spot.) Taking the bus does not save time for such a short distance, since the bus I would use only runs every half hour during the day.

The motorboard seemed an excellent compromise which would not get me sweaty in summer months (since it's electric) and the upright stance meant that my slacks are in little danger. Like a bike, I could take the motorboard with me on a bus if I had to go far, although folding it up and carrying it with me would be simpler than loading and unloading the bike from the rack in front of the bus.

That was the plan. Here's what happened:

surfing.jpg Surfers have been presented with an awkward dilemma recently with the news that the sunblock they use to protect their skin could be damaging the natural habitat they use as their playground: A study has found that some of the products we use to save ourselves from skin cancer and burns are having an adverse effect on the world's coral reefs. The delicate fauna, which requires sunlight to convert into food, has been damaged in some areas popular with surfers, so how are they to protect themselves responsibly?
